IANGEL and Femena are proud to announce the publication of their article, Bread, Work, Freedom! The Urgent Call for Action and Accountability in Afghanistanin the UC Law SF International Law Review. 49 UC Law SF Int’l L. Rev. 59 (2026). The Article examines the systematic degradation of women and girls in Afghanistan since the Taliban reclaimed power in 2021, and the resulting violations of international human rights law. Drawing on first hand accounts of life experienced under this brutal regime, the Article explains the jurisdictional framework for holding the Taliban to account and analyzes how this institutionalized gender subjugation amounts to crimes against humanity and gender apartheid.

The publication of this Article reminds the international community of the plight of over 22 million women and girls in Afghanistan and underscores their urgent demand for action and accountability. Read the Article here and please share it with your networks.
