On March 4, 2016, IANGEL had the pleasure of meeting with Professor Hiroshi Kashiwagi, Dean and Professor at Osaka City University in Japan.

Dr. Kashiwagi has nonprofit experience in both Japan and the US. In 1985 he cofounded the Japan Pacific Resource Network (JPRN), an organization that connects Japanese visitors with nonprofit volunteer work focusing on civil rights, corporate social responsibility, and community empowerment.

Dr. Kashiwagi is currently writing a book on nonprofit organizations and women’s issues for the Women and Job Institute in Japan, and he is researching women in the workplace in the US.

We had an enlightening conversation about women’s issues in Japan, ranging from sexual harassment, LGBT rights, and women’s participation in politics. IANGEL President Nancy Newman and Executive Director Cecilia Lipp also discussed the ways in which pro bono attorneys can support nonprofit organizations in Japan.
