Supporting Education of Women and Girls in Afghanistan

Since taking control of Afghanistan, the Taliban have excluded girls above 6th grade age from education, and even more recently, suspending women from attending university. Despite these bans, brave young women teachers are continuing to teach these girls. IANGEL stands with these dedicated teachers with vital connection and financial support, to help buy supplies and pay rent. IANGEL is also advancing international legal advocacy against this continuing violation of international human rights law, and engaging pro bono legal resources to assist Afghan refugees in the United States.

Thank you for not leaving the women and girls of Afghanistan alone.

Turning Anger into Action in a Post-Roe World

On June 24, 2022, the Dobbs decision by the US Supreme Court revoked constitutional protection for abortion rights that had been protected by Roe v. Wade for nearly 50 years. This intellectually dishonest opinion is nothing less than a direct assault on women’s equality under the law. But IANGEL is channeling anger into action, with education, advocacy, and engagement of volunteer legal resources to respond to the challenges ahead.

Teaching the next generation of gender justice advocates

In collaboration with Berkeley Law’s Reproductive Justice Project, IANGEL’s Teen Information Project for Reproductive Justice (TIP) is a new curriculum designed to provide young people with information they need to protect their health, understand their rights, and recognize the ever-changing laws affecting contraception, pregnancy, abortion, and parenting. Slated to be presented in high school classrooms this spring, TIP will help provide the next generation with the education and understanding they will need to defend, and advance their rights to reproductive freedom in the post-Roe world. Advocacy on the Global Effects of Dobbs

While the Dobbs decision has had an immediate and devastating impact domestically, it also has deeply concerning implications globally, by emboldening forces against equality movements worldwide. To bring focus on these issues, IANGEL was part of a coalition of organizations urging the U.S.’s Gender Policy Council to address the global impacts of the Dobbs decision. The reversal of established precedent upholding the rights of individuals in the U.S. to bodily autonomy and privacy will have harmful repercussions around the world, including impairing work to prevent and respond to gender-based violence globally.

Reproductive justice resources

Since the fall of Roe, it is critically important that resources and information about access to reproductive healthcare be made available to everyone, everywhere. IANGEL collected and posted this important information, links, and media for for all persons who can become pregnant in the US who are in need of support.
